Pudding Club members discuss post-Brexit prospects for Britain and decide it would lead to much more international understanding if it forms future trade affiliations exclusively with countries who all speak the same language.

Lord Noes, General Alarm and Sir Rah Sera thoroughly enjoyed the Sole Meuniere at the Club last week because it is one of their favourite lunches especially when expertly matched by the sommelier with a Grand Cru Chablis.

“I say” said His Lordship suddenly “this Brexit business looks like getting frightfully nasty”

“Well what else would you expect from that Juncker mob in Brussels?” demanded the General “they’re trying to put the squeeze on us for enough cash to bail out Greece for the next ten years”

“I must say” commented Sir Rah “that the EU is the only club in the world where it costs more to leave than to join”

“I see that Blair person” observed His Lordship “plans to use the election to pursue another Remain campaign”

“Hopefully” suggested the General “he’ll get Juncker and Merkel to form a new Coalition of the Willing and it will end up doing to the EU what the first one did to Iraq”

“Do you think that Theresa” queried Sir Rah “has got a clear plan for Britain post Brexit?”

“Funny that you should mention that” declared His Lordship “because I was only talking to her on that very same subject in the Commons on Monday. I think she’ll adopt the Anglosphere strategy”

“How very interesting” opined Sir Rah “but isn’t that rather old fashioned and just possibly a trifle racist?”

“Absolutely not dear boy” declared His Lordship “it’s new age and sensibly linguist. The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland all speak our language and trading deals with them would save millions through not having to translate everything into French, German and all those other EU languages that all sound Greek to me”

“But the US and Canada are in NAFTA” pointed out Sir Rah “Ireland is in the EU and Australia and New Zealand are in the Antipodes”

“The Falkland Islands would join in a heartbeat” asserted the General

“Theresa and Trump” declared His Lordship “will lead the Anglosphere to become the most powerful trading block in the world”

“How do you think China would react?” asked Sir Rah

“They would adopt English as their national language” confirmed His Lordship
