“Look here Bill” said Ged “we’re very concerned about the UK Labour Party. Leading commentators are forecasting that it’s so stuffed it won’t be able to form another government until the twenty-thirties”

“Nothing like that could possibly happen here” responded Bill reassuringly

“I don’t know” said Ged cautiously “that crackpot Kevin launched a similar procedure for electing party leaders so we could easily cop a Corbyn ”

“There’s absolutely no chance” asserted Bill firmly “because Australian Labor is firmly established as a centre-left party dominated by the right”

“That’s absolute bullshit” asserted Dave even more firmly “it’s part of the union movement run by us”

“What Kevin should have done” said Ged “is introduce a party leadership ballot strictly limited to union members and thus ensure that if a left-wing loony ever became leader he’d be our left-wing loony”

“Wait a bit though” advised Bill “don’t forget that in the last leadership ballot party members voted for Albo but thankfully there was the safeguard of the parliamentary party who ensured the right result by voting for me”

“I’m still worried” said Ged “about the possibility that one day the loony left party membership could organise itself into a voting block strong enough to impose a Corbyn catastrophe upon us”

“It will never happen” opined Bill “because the Australian loony left are all in the Greens. Lee Rhiannon has absolutely no chance of ever becoming leader of the Labor Party”
“To be absolutely frank” revealed Dave “I’m a bit worried about
