Lucy reports on the post Bennelong by-election session she had with Malcolm at Point Piper. She’s just sent in this exclusive summary of their inspiring discussion.

“You must be quite chuffed” I commented “at beating the septic from Toledo Ohio, Blackout Bill and the apologists for Sam Dastyari”

“I’m absolutely stoked” enthused Malcolm “and I’m convinced that if only we could have got Eddie Obeid out on day release we’d have won in a landslide”

“I can’t help feeling a bit sorry for Kristina” I reasoned “having to carry so much baggage around from that appalling NSW Labor Government. And Blackout Bill isn’t a patch on Eddie and Joe when it comes to power broking”

“She just couldn’t overcome the handicap of at least a dozen visits by Bill to her campaign” explained Malcolm “She would actually have been better off with a dozen visits from Tony”

“I must say” I confided “that the next issue which causes me grave concern is your thirtieth Newspoll loss in succession”

“Me too” said Malcolm

“The obvious difference between you and Tony” I surmised “is that his thirty losses in succession indicated an inevitable longterm downward trend whereas your twenty-odd to date indicate that things can only get better from now on”

“I absolutely agree Luce” agreed Malcolm “but there are obviously going to be a tsunami of ill-informed and unhelpful comments when I reach the thirty mark”

“Tony might even suggest it’s appropriate that you step down” I ventured

“He’s pathetic really” opined Malcolm “but I’ll simply point out that Tony’s thirty successive losses were leading inevitably to disaster and chaos while in direct contrast mine are clearly pointing to future growth and prosperity”

“That’s so inspiring” I declared

“I’ll point out that you have to go through the hard times before you earn your place in the sun plastered in SPF 50+” asserted Malcolm

“So your address to the nation after you reach the landmark of thirty successive Newspoll losses will usher in an era of hope and prosperity free from the tyranny of Blackout Bill and the CFMEU” I hypothesised

“It will go even beyond that” declared Malcolm “it will guarantee that after fifty successive Newspoll losses the nation will finally realise that it’s got things terribly wrong and then I’ll start a whole new era of wins”

“Perhaps you could persuade Eddie Obeid to stand beside you with tears in his eyes as you give the address” I suggested

“Great idea Luce” exclaimed Malcolm “we’ve got plenty of time to apply for a day release”
