The story starts here...

Dick discusses with Richard whether the NSW branch of the Greens is a bigger threat to democracy than Trump.

“Now Dick” began Dick “you must be concerned about the communist doctrine being promoted by the NSW branch of your party”

“Not at all Dick” responded Richard “the Greens are sufficiently democratic to be able to embrace a wide divergence of extreme left views”

“But communism isn’t democratic” pointed out Dick “so surely if the party is taken over by the NSW branch it will only embrace one undemocratic view”

“I can assure you” said Richard soothingly “that a party like ours so rooted in democratic principles would never allow itself to abandon the freedoms that Australia holds so dear”

“How come then” asked Dick “your NSW branch has just announced its views on capitalism are similar to those of Cuba?”

“They may be anti-capitalist” agreed Richard “but they merely support a very modern democratic style of communism. Their commitment to climate change and taking in a million refugees a year is unwavering”

“However wouldn’t you agree they’re a bigger threat to the Greens’ democratic principles than Trump?” asked Dick

“Good heavens no” replied Richard “I can’t think of a single Trump policy I agree with while on the other hand Lee Rhiannon and I agree on a whole range of democratic policies”

“But she doesn’t support capitalism” pointed out Dick “and Trump does”

“The point is” asserted Richard “that Lee doesn’t agree with Trump’s style of

capitalism but neither does Bernie Sanders”

“Can you name any style of capitalism she’s happy with?” asked Dick

“I can state with absolute confidence” replied Richard “that she’s comparatively partial to the Greens’ style of capitalism where profits go to the government and the workers instead of the shareholders, people don’t receive a bigger income just because they work and there is every incentive to start new businesses so long as they’re carbon neutral”

“But that sounds more like communism than capitalism” commented Dick

“It’s true democracy” claimed Richard “because it’s the result of taking a wide divergence of views and transforming them into a true policy of the people”

“Tell me” asked Dick “where does this wide divergence of views actually come from?”

“Greenpeace, the ABC, GetUp!, the Guardian” replied Richard “and we also source views internationally from Cuba and China”
