This was the week when Tony Abbott discarded any last vestige of hope of being awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Would you still travel to Melbourne even if you had to have a visa - You Decide

Heard at a Liberal Party branch committee meeting

“Should I invite Dyson Heydon to come and speak at our fundraiser next year?’

“No because by that time Bill Shorten could have him running a Royal Commission into Tony”

Heard at a meeting of the Australian Border Force in Melbourne

“So what is our operational plan for next week?”

“We’re boarding boats coming down the Yarra to check for incoming Syrian asylum seekers”

I want to be absolutely clear about this

Wouldn’t it be an advantage for Labor to lose the Canning by-election rather than cause Tony to be spilt by winning it and so lose as PM the only member of the Coalition Bill Shorten has any hope of beating in the preferred prime minister polling?

Heard down the Canberra corridors of power

“I see Sarah Hanson Young has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars travelling to detention centres all over the world”

“It would have been well worth the money if one of them had detained her”

Heard at Labor Party HQ

“What this Royal Commission business comes down to is a test of integrity between Dyson Heydon and the unions

“Well we can’t win them all”

Heard in the PM’s office

“Why the hell is Peter Dutton going to Geneva to help solve the Syrian refugee crisis?”

“The Immigration Department refused to allow him to fly to Damascus”

Heard at Labor Party HQ

“Is there anyone round here who agrees with Bill about the FTA with China?”

“Well we don’t know what he said but we agree with it while desperately hoping that he’ll change his mind”

About this Series
