The Primary Concern

The US primary elections are a perfect illustration of the old adage that politics is the art of hating people in the opposition more than hating people in your own party.

Candidates in the primaries who were incumbents, male or friends of Obama almost invariably lost. Candidates who were female, members of the Tea Party and consider Obama to be an absolute ratbag almost invariably won.

The anti-Democratic mood was so prevalent they almost lost one of their own primaries.

Obama’s tactics to get his insiders elected in the primaries misfired badly. He offered plum gigs to their opponents if they withdrew from the contest. They both opted not to withdraw and subsequently won. The moral for Obama is that in November he should support Republican candidates.

The daunting prospect facing the US is a political system dominated by republican women who belong to the Tea Party and come hot and strong with two lumps.

The first Tea Party was instrumental in getting rid of the Brits and the second seems to have a fair chance of repeating the dose for British Petroleum.

The absence of any Democratic members confirms the Tea Party is a political movement rather than a social occasion. It is the Right’s answer to the latte Left and the cappuccino chattering classes.

The Tea Party main policy is to ignore Washington. If any of their candidates get elected in November they will probably join the trend and move in next door to Sarah Palin.

Expert pollsters believe that Obama’s chances in the 2012 election would improve exponentially if he switched to the Republican Party and had a sex change operation.

Politics in the US is going through a very strange period. Nancy Pelosi has actually been heckled by the far left for not being far enough left. This is like North Korean communist party members jeering Kim Jong-il for not starving enough people.

As the winning candidates in the primaries start their campaigns for November its difficult not to think of them as addicted masochists. It’s like me voluntarily interviewing Sarah Palin every day for five months.

The electoral system in the US is badly in need of a shake-up. It’s a huge industry employing thousands of people with a multi-million dollar turnover yet the politicians it produces are still not subject to an effective system of quality control.

P.E.Doff helps US politicians see first hand the effects of binge drinking.
